Obverse Description. On a gold metal circular device 1 1/2 inches (3.81 cm) in diameter, two wrapped laurel branches originating from the base with leaves ending just above the half-way point, within an America bald eagle displayed and supporting an image of the POW flag, in his dexter talons an olive branch and in his sinister talons 13 arrows, above a triangle with five mullets all Or.

Obverse Symbolism.  The American bald eagle displayed holding an olive branch and 13 arrows is a national symbol. The triangle with stars represents a folded American flag.    

Reverse Description:  A circle supported by two wrapped laurel branches originating from base ending just above the half-way point, within between a triangle with five stars representing a folded American flag and a spray of laurel leaves in base are the words inscribed, “FOR DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE”, arching overall are the words inscribed, “DEFENSE POW/MIA ACCOUNTING AGENCY” all gold.

Reverse Symbolism.  The triangle with stars represents a folded American flag.

Ribbon. The ribbon is Scarlet, Bluebird, White, Black, and Golden Yellow. Scarlet represents the blood of those lost on past recovery missions. Bluebird is representative of DoD and DPAA is a DoD agency. White symbolizes honor and integrity in which the mission is accomplished. Black alludes to the solemn nature of the agency’s mission.
